Celebrating Dr. Jeffrey Mitchell
September 18th, 2024
With a happy buzz in the room at Glenmore Catering, Jeff Mitchell was surrounded by family, friends, alumni, and well-wishers joining in for his retirement celebration. Jeff dedicated 50 years to the State of Maryland, including 44 remarkable years at UMBC. He worked as a regional coordinator of emergency health services for the Maryland Institute for Emergency Medical Services Systems. He made enduring national and international impacts as Co-Founder of the International Critical Incident Stress Foundation (ICISF) a nonprofit organization that provides education and support to traumatized emergency and military personnel. As a foundational member of the department, he joined UMBC in 1980. Born in Brooklyn New York, Jeff was a former firefighter and paramedic. His many contributions to our campus and his field will endure and shape our future directions.
Numerous speakers celebrated Jeff’s long life of service, and Dean Kimberly Moffitt joined us to show her respect and admiration.
