About

I have been in EMS since 1996. I have worked as a field paramedic and field supervisor in Louisiana and Maryland. In 2007 I transitioned to teaching full-time in Louisiana before coming to Maryland and UMBC in 2009 to continue teaching in EMS.

Research Interests

Stress responses/reactions in paramedic students during high fidelity simulations.

Teaching Interests

I enjoy teaching across the full spectrum of emergency medical services, including EMR, EMT, Paramedic, and continuing education courses. In recent years, my teaching interests have expanded to include broader topics in disaster and emergency health systems. I now regularly teach courses on disaster medicine, healthcare ethics, and cultural diversity in healthcare. I also developed and introduced two new courses: an Ethics in Healthcare course and a General Education Program (GEP) science course that integrates Heartsaver First Aid with foundational concepts in disaster science.
