Major Requirements

EMT Certification (6 credits)


Students without a current, acceptable EMT certification complete the following:

  • EDHS 202 – Emergency Medical Technician I (3)
  • EDHS 203 – Emergency Medical Technician II (3)

Emergency and Disaster Health Systems (24 credits)


Complete the following degree core requirements:

  • EDHS 115 – Medical Terminology (3)
  • EDHS 200 – Introduction to Emergency and Disaster Health Systems (3)
  • EDHS 301 – Health Systems Planning and Dynamic Deployment (3)
  • EDHS 340 – Cultural Diversity in Healthcare (3)
  • EDHS 351 – Financial and Personnel Management (3)
  • EDHS 423 – Public Health Emergency Preparedness (3)

Mathematics Courses (4 credits)

Paramedic Concentration (116-118 credits)

Paramedic Concentration


The Paramedic Concentration consists of the core requirements of the Emergency and Disaster Health Systems B.S. and a minimum of 98 credits in the concentration. Students pursuing the Paramedic Concentration must be EMT certified and provide documentation of a minimum of 100 patient contacts by the fall of their junior years.

Science Courses

Complete 20-22 credits of science courses.

Introductory Biology Course

Complete 3 or 4 credits from the following:

OR

Anatomy and Physiology

Complete the following 8 credits:

  • BIOL 251 – Human Anatomy and Physiology I (3)
  • BIOL 251L – Human Anatomy and Physiology I Laboratory (1)
  • BIOL 252 – Human Anatomy and Physiology II (3)
  • BIOL 252L – Human Anatomy and Physiology II Laboratory. (1)
Chemistry Sequence

Complete 6 or 10 credits from one of the following chemistry sequences:

  • CHEM 101 – Principles of Chemistry I (4)

and CHEM 102 – Principles of Chemistry II (4)

and CHEM 102L – Introductory Chemistry Lab I (2)

  OR

  • HEM 120 –Introduction to General, Organic, and Biochemistry I (4)
