Paramedic Advising

Students who wish to pursue a bachelor’s degree in Emergency Health Services with a concentration in Paramedic must download and complete the Declaration of Major form. On the form, the student will place “EDHS” in the blank for primary and “Paramedic” in the blank for concentration. The student should email Kyle Bates to schedule a meeting with the EDHS Department’s Paramedic Program Director. During this meeting, the Program Director can explain the Paramedic pathway and enter advising notes for the orientation advisor.

Orientation Advising

Before starting classes at UMBC, students will attend an orientation meeting where a general advisor will introduce them to the registration system and assist them in creating their first schedule for the upcoming semester. After the orientation, we strongly encourage students to reach out again to review the forthcoming semester.

Continued Advising

Office Hours Appointments

The Program Director will be the student’s resource and academic advisor for the remainder of the student’s academic career in the Paramedic Program. Students will receive an email about mid-semester that will provide information about scheduling classes for the upcoming semester. In that email, there will be information on how students can schedule advising appointments. Students will not receive permission to register for classes until they meet with the Program Director.

Additional Advising Information

Frequently, students may be in multiple concentrations, such as Pre-PA. In these instances, students will work with their Paramedic Concentration Advisor and a Pre-Professional Advisor. Overall, the Office for Academic and Pre-Professional advising website is an excellent resource for first-year and transfer students.
